Job Summary:
The Computational Chemist will be responsible for utilizing advanced computational techniques to support research and development efforts in the field of chemistry. The successful candidate will collaborate with scientists and researchers to design and optimize computational models, simulations, and algorithms to solve complex chemical problems. Additionally, the Computational Chemist will analyze and interpret computational data, providing insights and recommendations to facilitate the development of new chemical compounds and materials.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement computational models, simulations, and algorithms to study chemical systems and phenomena.
2. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and optimize computational methodologies for chemical research.
3. Utilize computational tools and software packages to perform molecular dynamics simulations, quantum mechanics calculations, and data analysis.
4. Analyze and interpret computational data to extract meaningful insights and identify trends.
5. Assist in the design and synthesis of new chemical compounds based on computational predictions.
6. Validate and benchmark computational models against experimental data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
7. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in computational chemistry and contribute to the continuous improvement of research methodologies.
8. Prepare technical reports, research papers, and presentations to disseminate findings internally and externally.
9. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support drug discovery, materials development, and other research projects.
10. Ensure compliance with relevant safety, quality, and regulatory guidelines throughout the computational chemistry processes.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's/Master's/Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Computational Chemistry, or a related field.
2. Proven experience in developing and implementing computational models and simulations for chemical systems.
3. Proficiency in using computational chemistry software packages such as Gaussian, GAMESS, VASP, or similar.
4. Strong understanding of quantum mechanics, molecular dynamics, statistical mechanics, and other computational chemistry principles.
5. Solid programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB, with the ability to develop and modify computational codes.
6. Familiarity with molecular visualization tools, data analysis, and scripting languages (e.g., VMD, R, Perl) is highly desirable.
7. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret computational data and draw meaningful conclusions.
8. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present research findings.
9. Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment, managing multiple tasks with competing priorities.
10. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.
